Man fatally stabbed at Augusta restaurant

An Augusta man was fatally stabbed at an Augusta restaurant Saturday night.

Police were still searching for the person who stabbed Frank Roosevelt Jackson, 50, several times at Mr. J's Famous Door Supper Club on Laney-Walker Boulevard around 8:50 p.m., said Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald.

Mr. Jackson's body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, Mr. McDonald said.

Armed man sought in Broad Street robbery

Witnesses say a man dressed in black and armed with a handgun robbed a Broad Street business Saturday morning.

Richmond County deputies were dispatched about 9 a.m. to Augusta Cash Advance in the 1200 block of Broad Street, according to a sheriff's office report.

A man in a black nylon coat, pants and ski mask jumped over the counter and took money from the clerk while showing a silver semi-automatic handgun.

The robber is described as a 20- to 25-year-old black man between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 150 pounds.

Aiken woman, children found in New Mexico

New Mexico police have arrested an Aiken woman charged with fleeing authorities with her two children.

Veronica Kirby, 29, was captured Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque almost two months after she left with her daughter Trinity, 7, and son Isaac, 5, according to an Aiken Department of Public Safety news release.

She told friends she intended to leave the county with her children, which was a violation of a state court order.

The children are in the custody of law enforcement. Once an extradition hearing is held, Mrs. Kirby will return to Aiken.
