Kathy Mobley and Jessica Thompson know Christmas will never be the same for David Holt's widow and children. But they want to help make it a little happier for the family of the slain Sam's Club store manager, and they've come up with a creative way to do it.

The women, partners in the company Computer Phonics, have designed a bookmark featuring Mr. Holt's picture and a poem written by a Sam's Club employee in the wake of this summer's killing.

Speedy Printing in Martinez printed 10,000 copies of the bookmark Wednesday, and it will be sold at Sam's Club and other area locations starting Saturday. They will sell for $1 each, and proceeds will be donated to the family.

``We just wanted to do something to help them,'' said Mrs. Mobley, whose son Waine works at Sam's and was hired by Mr. Holt. ``It started out small, but it's turned into something huge.''

Maggie Ostrander, sales manager at Sam's, was on hand to watch the production of the bookmarks Wednesday.

``I think it's a wonderful thing they're doing,'' she said. ``I know a good thing can't erase what an evil thing has done, but it goes a long way to help the healing. And I think it will help the family's healing as well.''

Mrs. Mobley also maintains a Web site in Mr. Holt's memory. She created the site within a week after his slaying. CSRA Internet recently has agreed to let her set up a Web site free of charge, she said, and she's in the process of moving her old site to a new address: www.davidholt.org.
