Six golfers with area ties have advanced to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.
Six first-stage events have been held and five more are scheduled today through Saturday.
The second stage is Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 19-22.
Those already assured spots in the second stage are Stephen Poole, Dane Burkhart and Kevin Kisner of Aiken, Scott Brown of North Augusta, David Robinson of Sandersville, Ga., and former Augusta State golfer Major Manning .
Poole, Brown, Robinson and Kisner made the top 23 at Florence (S.C.) Country Club. Burkhart and Manning played at St. Johns Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla.
Area golfers failing to advance were Matt Hendrix, Scott Usher, Emmett Turner and Kyle Bradley.
TOUR STOP: A published report indicates that The Nationwide Tour Championship is coming to South Carolina for the next three seasons.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the tour's season-ending event will be played at the Daniel Island Club beginning in 2009.
Nationwide Tour spokesman Jeff Adams would not confirm the report. He did say there have been talks about having a Nationwide event in Charleston and details will be announced Thursday.
RULE HURTS EX-TIGER: Former Clemson golfer Charles Warren probably wishes the PGA Tour had left its new cut policy alone.
Three times this year Warren was eliminated after the 54-hole cut and received what amounts to last-place money, give or take $2,000.
With two tournaments to go, Warren is No. 123 on the money list and just over $12,000 away from losing his card for next year.
