FAMILY: Husband: George McManus; three children, two stepchildren and six grandchildren
OCCUPATION: Teller at SRP Federal Credit Union
DIAGNOSIS DATE: July 2004
WHAT HELPED: Faith, friends, having access to lots of information, and a wonderful oncologist
OUTLOOK: Currently clear; should have a long life
ADVICE: Cancer is no longer an automatic death sentence, so though the mind goes to worst-case scenario keep a positive pro-active mind set and take one day at a time.
PERSONAL: I was a single mom at the time and was especially worried about my daughter during my treatment. But she was great. I was involved in the musical Annie when I was diagnosed, and for a long time the music of that show pulled me through the tough times. Without a strong faith in God, I don't know how anyone can survive the roller coaster ride that goes with diagnosis and treatment.
OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
