MARY REDWOOD

FAMILY: Husband, George; daughters, Rakesha and Maria

OCCUPATION: Engineering and technology teacher at Lucy C. Laney High School. I was a Golden Apple Award winner in 2007. I have been a teacher since 1976.

DIAGNOSED: Oct. 15, 2005

WHAT HELPED: Spiritual support from my family, my church family and my colleagues

OUTLOOK: I was diagnosed in 2005 with breast cancer. In 2007, I was diagnosed with liver cancer. Even though I have been diagnosed twice, I have a positive outlook on the future and my place in it.

ADVICE: Remain strong in your faith and believe in God.

PERSONAL: I have been highly favored by the people in my life. They have provided support in ways which are unimaginable, and I thank God for their presence in my life.
