Anti-abortion group drops endorsement
ATLANTA - Georgia's largest anti-abortion lobby has withdrawn its endorsement of Republican Saxby Chambliss in the U.S. Senate race, charging that he has changed his position on abortion since the primary election.
In the primary, Georgia Right to Life gave its approval both to Mr. Chambliss and to his GOP opponent, state Rep. Bob Irvin, based on their responses to a questionnaire. On the form, both candidates said they opposed abortion except when the mother's life is at risk.
But Mr. Chambliss recognizes two other three exceptions - rape and incest.

GOP hopefuls promise changes in child care
ATLANTA -Two weeks before the election, the Georgia Republican Party's top statewide candidates promised Tuesday to work for new reforms in the state's child welfare system and blamed Democrats for not doing more.
"After 14 years and millions of dollars, Georgia still does not have a system in this age of technology that can track where our children are in state care. And that is criminal," said the party's gubernatorial nominee, Sonny Perdue.
Mr. Perdue was joined at a news conference by the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, Steve Stancil, and the GOP nominee for state school superintendent, Kathy Cox.
