FAMILY: Husband, Jason; two children, Asher, 3, and Conner, 1
OCCUPATION: Stay-at-home mom
DIAGNOSED: March 2004
WHAT HELPED: The Breast Health Center at University Hospital changed my life - it helped make the whole experience bearable. The support I received from fellow survivors and my family over the past four years helped me through the many surgeries and recoveries - emotionally and physically. I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't have the relationship I have with my Savior. Prayer and support from my loving husband has helped me stay positive and uplifted, even when I've been at my lowest.
OUTLOOK: Boobs don't define who I am - how I live my life without them does. It's not an easy road. It's an emotional roller coaster, but family support and loving friends make it bearable. I live my life for the one who created me and for my husband and children. They give me strength.
PERSONAL: I was diagnosed at age 24 two months prior to getting married. After returning from my honeymoon, I had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. I had skin cancer removed from the scar tissue from the mastectomy. Recently my implants began to cause tremendous pain and discomfort and I had them removed. I am 28 now. I wear a prosthesis in my bra and I am pain free.
