Two homemade bombs exploded on the porch of an Augusta home early Sunday, and police are trying to find out who made the devices, officials say.
Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Steve Fanning said no one was hurt and no property was damaged when the bombs went off at about 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of Persimmon Road in the National Hills area.
Investigator Fanning said the bombs appeared to have been made by putting dry ice and water in a pressurized bottle.
Woman says man was looking into bedroom
A 27-year-old Augusta woman told police she saw a man peering in her bedroom early Sunday, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
Aprell Edwards, of the 2700 block of Woodcrest Drive, said the man was standing outside her bedroom window when she noticed him.
No arrests have been made.
Man says someone snatched cell phone
A 19-year-old Aiken man told police that his cell phone was snatched away from him while he was standing near his car Sunday morning.
Randy Rashad Gaines said he was in the 100 block of Walker Street when a man came up to him and grabbed his phone, valued at $200.
The man then jumped into a car and drove off, according to a report filed with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
10th-grader shot in left leg during walk
A Hephzibah High School sophomore was shot in the leg Saturday night when he and a friend walked through a housing complex on Bleakley Street, a Richmond County sheriff's report says.
Pierce Jamal Anfield, 14, of the 1600 block of Goshen Road, was treated at University Hospital.
His condition was unavailable Sunday.
According to the report, the teen was walking through Cherry Tree Crossing with a friend when the two boys heard gunshots. Pierce looked down and realized he had been shot in the left inner thigh.
The report says the bullet chipped his left leg bone and lodged behind his knee.
Police say man used fountain as toilet
A 70-year-old homeless man was arrested Saturday after police say he exposed himself from the waist down and defecated in a fountain in the 700 block of Broad Street.
Fernando Macias was charged with public indecency and taken to the Richmond County jail, according to jail records.
A Richmond County sheriff's incident report says that Mr. Macias was found partially nude near the fountain and that he told police he was having stomach problems.
Augusta woman tells police she was raped
A 31-year-old Augusta woman told police she was raped Saturday, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
The woman said a man made her undress and forced her to have sex with him on the floor of his bedroom. According to the report, she left the house, in the 2100 block of Walton Way, when her attacker went to another room.
No one has been arrested.
Residents report foul smell in neighborhood
A number of people called the Richmond County Sheriff's Office during the weekend to complain about a foul odor in west Augusta.
Sheriff's deputies were unable to find the source of the smell, authorities said.
The odor was noticed by many people living in or near National Hills.
U.S. official will visit Augusta for ceremony
Alphonso Jackson, the secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will visit Augusta today to present funding for a program at Antioch Ministries Inc.
A presentation ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the corner of Perry Street and Blount Avenue.
