Police seek driver in hit-and-run fatality

Police are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a female pedestrian Monday night on Gordon Highway.

Wendy Williams, 47, 1900 block of Wylds Road, died about 7:30 p.m. after being struck by a vehicle traveling east in the 2200 block of Gordon Highway, Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Police are seeking a silver or gold vehicle that left the scene.

Motorcyclist is injured when he is run off road

A North Augusta man remained hospitalized after being thrown from a motorcycle Monday afternoon.

James Gay, 26, of Beechwood Street, was traveling north on Mike Padgett Highway near T's Restaurant, when he was forced from the road by a large truck, said Richmond County sheriff's Cpl. Bill Adams said.

Mr. Gay was listed in critical condition Monday at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Man charged in wreck that killed 1, injured 2

Authorities filed charges against an Appling man after last week's wreck that killed one and injured two others.

Police charged Travis Howard, 37, with vehicular homicide and following too close.

Edwin Sanchez, 44, of Hephzibah, died Friday in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital from injuries, said Columbia County Deputy Coroner Bonnie King.

The Thursday accident involved five vehicles on Washington Road.

Grovetown teens face number of sex charges

Grovetown police arrested two teens Saturday on multiple sex charges.

John Dalton Taylor, 17, of Grovetown, is charged with child molestation, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, statutory rape and two counts of sexual battery, according to jail records.

Akeem Desmond Nash, 18, of Grovetown, is charged with sexual battery, statutory rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of aggravated sodomy, according to jail records.

Men accused of firing at workers in rail yard

Two Augusta men are in custody, accused of firing shots at Norfolk Southern railroad workers about a week ago.

Eric Vance Anderson, 20, and Bland Massie III, 22, face several charges in connection with two incidents at the Norfolk Southern rail yard, authorities said.

Police are seeking another man suspected in the shooting and other illegal activities.

Columbia County rabies vaccine clinic planned

A low-cost rabies vaccination clinic for cats and dogs will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at Fire Station No. 10, on 3141 Ray Owens Road, behind Eubank Blanchard Community Center in Appling.

The cost is $2 per animal for as long as supplies last. For more details, contact the Columbia County Animal Care & Control department at (706) 541-4077.
