Another uniform victory
Greenbrier rallies in its 'green beans'

Members of the Greenbrier volleyball team may not enjoy every vegetable in the food pyramid, but they like their green beans as often as they can get them.

"Green beans. That's what we call our uniforms," senior Blaise Ramsbotham said. "We switch them out sometimes with our green and white ones, but these are our favorites."

The dark green, long-sleeved uniforms are new to the Greenbrier squad this year. The way they play when they're in them isn't so new.

The Lady Wolfpack knocked off region rival Evans earlier this year wearing the green beans. They grabbed another key region victory Tuesday night with a 22-25, 25-15, 25-10 win over Lakeside, another region rival.

The teams entered the contest undefeated in Region 3B-AAAA play.

Lakeside took control in the first game. The Lady Panthers took an 11-10 lead on a Halie Brinkman serve and never looked back.

"We started a little slow," Greenbrier coach Debbie Born said. "Lakeside's a good team. They're a scrappy team. We hit a lot of balls at them, and they dug every one of them up. That kind of got us on our back feet a little bit."

It didn't take long for the Lady Wolfpack to find their footing. It seemed like a different team took the court for Game 2.

"The girls are so good this year at adjustments," Born said. "Even toward the end of that first game I could tell the momentum was shifting. They listened to me, and they knew what they needed to do to win. That's all it was - just minor adjustments."

Greenbrier took the next two games to walk away with the region win. Junior Anne Czarnecki led the offensive production with 13 kills, while Ashton Carraway led the defense with 16 digs.

Czarnecki's eight blocks and Ramsbotham's 22 assists took care of the rest for the Lady Wolfpack's 25th win of the year.

It also moved Greenbrier, ranked No. 7 in Class AAAA, into sole possession of first place in the Region 3B-AAAA standings.

Including a 25-3, 25-5 win over Richmond Academy immediately after the Lakeside match, Greenbrier's region record stands at 4-0.
