'Liberal' media myth just not true
Letter to the Editor
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Enough with this trash talk about the "liberal" media! And since when is "liberal" a denigrating term? What about the "conservative" media which continues to spew lies long after the truth has been revealed?

Yesterday, I was trapped in a waiting room on which Fox News was blaring. The announcer told outright lies about Barack Obama, accusing him of supporting sex education, in its most prurient term, for kindergartners.

Then when the station, at my request, turned to CNN, that report showed a long portion of John McCain's 50-minute interview on the previous night's forum. Of course, Barack Obama who was given 35 minutes that night, was not shown at all. Is this the liberal media to which David Sisler is referring ("Don't just expose bias, fight it!, Sept. 13)?

As for Bill Clinton's excesses, he was duly reprimanded, disgraced before the entire nation -- not a private matter. And certainly, John Edwards was shamed by the media from coast to coast. Get your facts straight! And why would Sarah Palin undergo amniocentesis or some other method to determine the health of the fetus if she had no intention of undergoing an abortion? Did she think that would make her more heroic in the eyes of the public? And why would any mother expose her daughter's unmarried but pregnant plight to the nation? Another publicity gimmick?

Every American is entitled to a difference of opinion; that is the American heritage which we all cherish, but we are not entitled to sling mud and tell lies for political advantage, the biggest lie being the one which caused the war on Iraq.

I say, let us respect each other, not demonize each other.
