Reviewing and previewing college football:

WHO'S HOT

Vanderbilt . The Commodores are 4-0 and ranked No. 21 in the nation. Yes, Vanderbilt. The Nashville, Tenn., school is off this week preparing for No. 15 Auburn in a rare top-25 home matchup next weekend.

WHO'S NOT

West Virginia's Pat White. The Mountaineers' QB entered the season as a Heisman Trophy contender, but he's fallen off the radar after his team's 1-2 start. White is averaging 210 yards of total offense, but if West Virginia doesn't run the table he can give up any award hopes.

BACK IN BLACK, PART II

For the second year in a row, Georgia fans will don their black attire for a contest against a school from the state of Alabama. After the Bulldogs knocked off Auburn last season, Georgia will try to do the same to the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide. Will the "Blackout" plus Larry Munson 's retirement plus the ESPN College GameDay crew's trip to Athens equal a victory for the third-ranked Bulldogs?

READING RAINBOW

If you enjoy reading about college football there are a few new books out. For Georgia fans, author Rob Suggs has a book titled Top Dawg: Mark Richt and the Revival of Georgia Football . Another book is The 50 Greatest Plays in Georgia Bulldogs Football History by Patrick Garbin . Both are solid reads for Georgia fans, especially Suggs' tome, which opens with the Bulldogs' 2001 win at Tennessee.

For Florida fans, there's What it Means to be a Gator by Mark Schlabach . It's an interesting read chronicling Florida football since the 1950s through the eyes of coaches and players (including Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer ). The drawback? There's no insight from Steve Spurrier , the greatest Gator ever, or Emmitt Smith .

No books about Clemson, Georgia Tech or South Carolina have been published this year.

RANKING THE BIG FOUR

1. Georgia (4-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference). Wide receiver A.J. Green gives Matthew Stafford a go-to weapon.

2. Georgia Tech (3-1, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Yellow Jackets on pace to eclipse last season's seven-win total.

3. Clemson (3-1, 1-0 ACC). Hard to get excited about a win over S.C. State.

4. South Carolina (2-2, 0-2 SEC). Offense is an absolute mess.

WHAT'S NEXT

- Maryland at Clemson, noon (CBS-Ch. 12)

- UAB at South Carolina, 7 p.m. (Pay-per-view)

- Wofford at Georgia Southern, 7 p.m. (CSS)

- Alabama at Georgia, 7:45 p.m. (ESPN)

THIS WEEK'S STORY LINES

Clemson: Which Tigers team will show against the Terrapins?

Georgia: Success will depend on whether the Bulldogs can slow down Glen Coffee , the No. 3 rusher in the SEC.

Georgia Tech: Enjoying well-earned bye.

South Carolina: Time for Stephen Garcia to shine.
