Herb fair has homegrown exhibitors
Event to be held in Montmorenci gets new products

The Fall Herb Fair in Montmorenci on Saturday will be a homegrown affair in more ways than one.

Not only will many of the 25 or so vendors feature homegrown herbs, plants and other wares but the majority of the goods also will be from area residents.

"All of our vendors are South Carolina residents. All but four are Aiken County residents," said Jackie Heath, who organizes the fair twice a year.

Four of the vendors are first-time exhibitors at the show, she said.

One of the new vendors will sell pottery, one makes wreaths mostly out of natural materials and two will sell handmade outdoor furniture.

The two types of outdoor furniture are entirely different from each other, Mrs. Heath said.

One vendor makes Adirondack-style chairs, while the other crafts twiglike pieces out of willow.

She also said that for the fourth year in a row, Aiken High School students will sell mums they grow at school.

Other vendors will sell perennials, ferns and beeswax ornaments.

"We'll have fall and Christmas items," Mrs. Heath said.

No one will go away hungry, either. Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers will be available.

Mrs. Heath has been holding herb fairs in the fall and spring for eight years. She said about 1,000 people attended the spring fair.

Mrs. Heath said the fair will be held rain or shine.

"We don't watch the Weather Channel for about two weeks before the fair," she said.
