Finds editing of statement dishonorable

Web posted September 22, 1997

Editor: The Chronicle:

The original ``Statement of Honor'' Congress read was this: ``Mother Teresa is saluted for her dedication to the unborn, the sick, the dying, and the poorest of poor for over 50 years. Mother Teresa acknowledges the sanctity of life and admonishes abortion as the greatest destroyer of peace in the world today.''

The last sentence of the original statement was deleted. Why would Congress do that? The answer is simple. If they regard the unborn fetus as human life, then they have to admit that abortion is murder and destroying this human life is a ``sin.'' Sin is one word you will never hear from this Congress. Mother Teresa used the phrase, ``destroyer of peace'' as a metaphor for ``sin.'' She told the truth about abortion and Congress rejected it.

Mother Teresa lived the simple Gospel message; love God and love your neighbor. From love comes joy and from joy comes peace, in that order.
