 Here is an account of Monday's events, according to police, as a gunman moved through the R.E. Phelon plant in Aiken, killing four former coworkers.

Here is an account of Monday's events, according to police:

  1. Accused gunman Arthur Hastings Wise arrives at R.E. Phelon Co. Inc. in Aiken, about 3 p.m. He parks his two-door red Saturn next to the guard house, gets out and shoots security guard Lt. Stan Vance. Back to Top.

  2. Mr. Wise enters the plant through the door to its human resources office. There he shoots and kills Human Resources Director Charles Griffith. Back to Top.

  3. He then walks onto the first floor of the plant, passing some people by but shooting at others. Police aren't sure in what order his next victims are shot. Back to Top.

  4. David Moore and Leonard Filyaw are at their work stations in the tool-and-die area. Mr. Wise shoots and kills them. Back to Top.

  5. Sheryl Wood, a quality assurance worker, is also shot and killed. Her body is found in the rear parking lot. Police speculate that she may have been shot inside the plant and a co-worker tried to help her get out. Back to Top.

  6. Jerry Corley and John Mucha are standing at separate granite work tables in the tool and die shop when Mr. Wise shoots and wounds both of them. Mr. Corley says the time was about 3:15 p.m. Back to Top.

  7. Police say they received a 911 call at 3:07 p.m. about a man with a gun who had shot several people at the plant. Authorities say they respond within two minutes of the call. They begin searching the building for employees and the suspect. Back to Top.

  8. Mr. Wise is found lying on the floor of the upstairs quality assurance office at the plant about 5:20 p.m. Back to Top.

  9. He is transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, where he was in serious condition on Tuesday after ingesting an unknown substance, possibly some kind of drug. Back to Top.
