If you follow high school sports, you are probably familiar with North Augusta High School senior Brett Johnson.

Brett not only is an outstanding football player and team captain for the North Augusta Yellow Jackets, he is also a force to be reckoned with on the varsity basketball court and the golf course.

He began playing recreation football and basketball when he was 5. He and his older brother, Lance, loved basketball so much their parents had a covered basketball court built in their backyard. This gave Brett ample opportunity to hone his basketball skills while also playing football for the North Augusta Parks and Recreation Department and later North Augusta Middle School.

In high school, Brett has been named All-Region, All-Area, and Defensive MVP both his sophomore and junior years with the football team.

He was also named All-Region guard with the varsity basketball team.

When not playing football or basketball, you can find him on the golf course playing on the varsity golf team.

Playing three sports definitely takes dedication, time-management skills and a strong work ethic. Brett's typical day includes, "going to class, lifting weights every day during school, going to practice, coming home, running sprints at night on the street, studying, and then going to bed."

His hard work is appreciated by his coach.

"Brett is a hardworking young man who has made the sacrifices to make himself into a great football player," said North Augusta's head coach, Dan Pippin.

Brett is just as impressive in the classroom. With a 4.09 GPA, Brett knows that making the grade in the classroom is just as important as achieving his goals as an athlete.

"Because you can't get into your dream school without the grades," he said.

Brett certainly has his pick. He's considering Duke University, the University of North Carolina, the University of Colorado, the Air Force Academy, Colorado State, Elon University, the University of Pennsylvania, Middle Tennessee State University, Tulane University, and the University of South Carolina.

While he hasn't decided where he wants to go, he'd like to study criminal justice with the hopes of working for the FBI or CIA one day.
