RICHMOND COUNTY
UNITED WE SING: United We Sing will begin at 7 p.m. at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater, Riverwalk Augusta. The Garden City Barbershop Chorus, a 50-man a cappella group, will perform. The free event will honor victims of the attacks. Representatives from local law enforcement offices, rescue squads and fire departments will attend. There also will be a flyover by an F/A-18 Hornet. BLOOD DRIVE: The Shepeard Community Blood Center will hold its second Remembrance Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1533 Wrightsboro Road and from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 112 Davis Road. Donors will receive pizza from Papa John's and a dozen roses from Martina's Flowers and Gifts. For more information, call 737-4551.
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: The Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at its donation center in LePavillion, 106 Pleasant Home Road. For more information, call 863-2123.
REMEMBRANCE DAY: The Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department will hold a 9-11 Remembrance Day ceremony at 9:58 a.m. at fire headquarters, 1099 Reynolds St. For more information, call 821-2932.
911 DAY: Augusta's 911 Emergency Services will hold its seventh annual 911 Day at the 911 Center, 911 Fourth St., starting at 10 a.m. The day will celebrate the efforts of those who work "behind the scenes" to provide emergency services. For more information, call 821-1242.
RICHMOND COUNTY SCHOOLS: Several schools have asked pupils and faculty to wear red, white and blue. C.T. Walker Magnet School will hold "Patriot's Day" with a school assembly at 2:15 p.m., which includes first-graders singing patriotic songs. John Milledge Elementary faculty and staffers will hold a luncheon at noon for firefighters of Engine Co. 5. T.W. Josey High School will have a moment of silence at 11:05 a.m., followed by a tribute to the military and the playing of God Bless the USA. The Academy of Richmond County High School will have a moment of silence and poetry reading at 9:30 a.m. National Hills Elementary School officials have invited area marshals, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and school police to visit for Public Safety Appreciation Day.
