Area closings

Richmond and Columbia County public schools are open, but all extracurricular activities have been canceled for tonight. If you wish to pick up your child early, call the Board of Education.

Augusta State University closed at 11:30 a.m. There are big screen TVs in Hardy Hall and the cafeteria for students to follow the latest events.

State offices are following normal operating procedures.

Paine College is open. There will be a prayer vigil at 3 p.m. in Gilbert Lambuth Memorial Chapel.

Augusta Mall closed at 1:30 p.m.

College Night has been canceled. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

Augusta Technical College is open, but has canceled evening classes. Students are being allowed to leave if they so choose.

Fort Gordon has tightened security.

Savannah River Site has been shut down and all non-essential personnel have been sent home.

Georiga Southern Univerisity has cancelled classes for today. The university remains open for business. Classes will resume Wednesday.

University of Georgia has cancelled classes for today. They will resume on Wednesday.

Greyhound bus lines has suspened all routes north of Virginia.

Augusta Preparatory Day School closed at noon. No decision has been made for Wednesday.

Augusta Christian School is holding classes. Parents may pick up their children if they choose. Extracurricular activities have been canceled for tonight.

Westminster Day School is open.

Curtis Baptist School has canceled after school high school activities, such as sports events. They have not made a decision about Wednesday.

Georgia Military College Fort Gordon is closed for today and Wednesday. Classes will be held at the Martinez campus.

The 5:30 p.m. meeting of Aiken County Development Committee has been canceled.

Voting for Aiken's GOP municipal primary has not been changed. The polls will be open until 7 p.m.

USC Aiken canceled its entire week's celebration of 40th anniversary events.

USC Aiken and Aiken Technical College continued with classes as scheduled.

Aiken County and Edgefield County public schools remained opened.

The Aiken County School Board meeting is to go on as scheduled tonight.

The U.S. District Courthouse in Aiken closed today. All federal courthouses in South Carolina were shut down by noon.

City of Aiken Planning Commission meeting for tonight has been canceled.

Gov. Jim Hodges has canceled visits for this week, including a walk for First Steps in Edgefield and Aiken this weekend.
