ATHENS, Ga. --- Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour was presented to Georgia as a possible preview of Florida QB Tim Tebow because of his ability to damage defenses by running and throwing.
If that was true, then the Bulldogs seem ready for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
In a 56-17 win, Georgia's defense allowed one first down through the first 25 minutes and surrendered 269 yards to LeFevour. The rest of the Chippewas accounted for 40 yards.
Last year, LeFevour became the second player in major football history to throw for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 in the same season (Former University of Texas QB Vince Young was the other). He was also responsible for 46 touchdowns.
But by the time LeFevour led Central Michigan to its first TD Saturday, the Bulldogs led 28-0 and had returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown.
LeFevour wasn't sacked until 12:42 remained, but his 19 rushing yards represented his lowest output in eight games.
"We didn't get enough pressure on him, I didn't think," said Georgia senior Corvey Irvin , a Laney alum. "But we got the win, and that's all that matters."
Georgia and Florida will meet Nov. 1 in Jacksonville, Fla.
EX-SPARTAN BACK HOME: Larry Knight , a 2005 Glenn Hills graduate and former Augusta Chronicle Dream 16 selection, appeared for Central Michigan as a reserve defensive end.
Knight (6-foot-4, 247) said he had about 30 family members and friends in the stands. But he didn't look for them, "because I wanted to stay focused on the game."
"I was very happy to come down here and just play football, period," Knight, a junior, said.
The Chippewas had four players from Georgia on their roster.
BYRD FEATURED: North Augusta graduate CJ Byrd was featured on the cover of the Bulldogs' game program, along with senior tight end Tripp Chandler .
On the field, Byrd made his 15th career start at safety and made four tackles. Only Rennie Curran had more solo tackles (8).
RETURNING DOG: Sophomore Clint Boling returned from a one-game suspension and saw plenty of action at right tackle. Boling started 11 games last year, 10 at right guard and one at right tackle.
Boing, who was arrested in the spring for reckless driving, was named to last season's Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team a year ago.
THIS AND THAT: Westside graduate Sanders Commings recovered a Central Michigan onside kick with 8:24 left in the third quarter and Georgia leading 35-17. Forty-three seconds later, Matthew Stafford hit senior receiver Mohamed Massaquoi for a 54-yard touchdown. ... Georgia is 32-2 in non-conference games under coach Mark Richt . ... Massaquoi (five catches, 79 yards) had the first two-touchdown day of his career.
