Richt's Web site to feature blog

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia coach Mark Richt plans to blog weekly on his recently launched Web site.

"I'm excited about it," the coach said of markricht.com. "There's going to be a lot more things added to it as we go. We're learning at a very rapid pace. It is a sharp Web site. We're going to make it as fresh and interactive as we can."

The Web site is operated by Atlanta-based Bluechip Athletic Solutions, a marketing and advertising firm that specializes in college sports.

The company runs sites for 35 schools including those for Georgia Tech football, six Southeastern Conference football programs including Florida, and six football programs in the Pac-10.

Among the features on the Richt site: video interviews with Richt, 15 clips of Larry Munson's greatest calls, a Georgia bell tower that rings and a picture of Stone Mountain with Richt's face etched into it, all accompanied by music from Georgia's Red Coact marching band.

And then there will be Richt's blog.

"Mark Richt is the only head coach of all of our clients that will truly put content in the blog," said Bluechip CEO and founder Steve Kennedy. "He's genuinely interested in his blog."

Richt said it would be "maybe a weekly thing that we're talking about doing just to keep it fresh. If something good happens, we can link to things that might be of interest. There's just so many things that we can do on it."

Bluechip Athletic Solutions charges schools from $500 to $4,500 per month to operate sites.

The company has worked closely with Georgia's football recruiting office, and the Athletic Association is footing the bill for the Web site.

Considering that Georgia athletic director Damon Evans has said the Association could collect $82 million this school year, that's hardly a dent.

The coaches' sites are meant to appeal to recruits, their parents and fans, Kennedy said.

They are not a competitor to official athletic Web sites like GeorgiaDogs.com that provide information on all of a school's athletic programs.

The site features every aspect of Georgia football that Richt's staff might want to emphasize to prospective recruits, from bios of each staff member to an overview of the school's athletics facilities to a section on Athens and its famous music scene.

"It certainly can be a great recruiting tool," Richt said. "Anybody in America can get on it for free. I think a Bulldog fan might enjoy it quite a bit."
