Bush has been a miserable president
Letter to the Editor
Thursday, September 04, 2008

What's wrong with America is not the liberal media, the Obamas or the Clintons. What's wrong with America are its ill-informed citizens who get spoon-fed their talking points from TV and radio pundits, and vote solely along party lines.

Bill Clinton is certainly no saint, but compared to George W. Bush he's Mother Teresa. During that scoundrel Clinton's presidency, the average income went up $7,500, whereas during Bush's administration it dropped $2,000. The deficit has grown from $5.7 trillion when Bush took office to $9.6 trillion and counting (what a fiscal conservative!).

What about scandals? I'll list a few but since I'm limited to 300 words, I can't mention them all. The biggest and most costly was Bush lying to get us into the Iraq War -- not lying just once but again and again. Here are a few others: warrantless wiretaps; outing Valerie Plame; the U.S. attorney firings; the Walter Reed conditions; the Katrina debacle; Medicare Part D (written by the drug companies!); the trade deficit rising from $385 billion to $811 billion, a 111-percent increase; negative votes and voter suppression during the 2000 elections; the 2004 recounts; no bid-contracts to Halliburton; Halliburton's toxic trailers; suspending habeas corpus; and sanctioning torture (so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques").

Over the past eight years, George W. Bush has managed to drive the economy into the ground and shred the Constitution in the process. He has brought more shame to the presidency and America than any other president in history. He makes Richard Nixon look like a Boy Scout.

So before you start blaming the liberals for all the wrongs in the world, why not take a long ,hard look at the conservatives. They have been doing a bang-up job themselves.

Jewel Pullen, Grovetown
