Taco Brown is a pint-size Pavarotti.
Betty Brown, of Martinez, said Taco began to exhibit musical leanings when he was less than a year old, howling in harmony with family members at first and later performing as a solo artist when the request was made.
"We just have to ask him," Ms. Brown said with a laugh. "Then the three of us will just sing, sing, sing."
Mrs. Brown said Taco's talent isn't to be confused with howling or barking. She said that he sings when he is happy and that when he isn't, well, he performs in the usual way.
"He'll bark, just like a normal dog," she said.
Like dogs that catch flying discs - an activity chihuahuas such as Taco are decidedly under-size for - Taco uses singing to entertain his owners and himself.
"It's therapeutic for all three of us," Ms. Brown said. "It's the way we entertain ourselves."
So far, she said, singing seems to be Taco's only trick. At 2, he still has time to develop more talents. Dancing perhaps? The doting Ms. Brown wouldn't be surprised. According to her, Taco, known for berating dogs much larger than himself, is always up for a challenge:
"He's fearless."
