GLENEAGLES, Scotland --- Oliver Wilson made the cut on the number in the Johnnie Walker Championship, moving the former Augusta State golfer closer to a berth on the European Ryder Cup team.

Wilson shot 1-under-par 72 on Friday for a 2-over 148 total.

Wilson, who is from England, holds the 10th spot in the European Ryder Cup standings -- with the top 10 making the team. He could only miss out if Ross Fisher finishes at least second or Nick Dougherty places in the top three in the tournament.

Fisher and Ross are in 37th and 22nd place, respectively.

This is the final qualifying tournament for the European team.

"I knew if I missed the cut, it was pretty much over," Wil-son said. "I've given myself a chance."

Gregory Havret shot 71 to hold a one-stroke lead over Robert Rock (70 on Friday) at 139.

Bradley Dredge (70) and Peter Whiteford (68) are two strokes off the lead.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: The leaderboard says five players are tied for the lead at 6-under-par 66 after the first round of the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, but one of them has an edge.

Of the co-leaders, Andy Bean is the only one who played the 6,822-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links on Friday.

It is considered harder than the 6,357-yard Del Monte Golf Course, where Hale Irwin, Fuzzy Zoeller, Chip Beck and Loren Roberts shot their 66s. In all, 10 of the top 12 players played at the Del Monte course.

The players will switch courses for today's round.

Former Augustan Allen Doyle opened with 69 at Pebble Beach.
