Positive Women Taking Action held its inaugural Head 2 Toe Women's Expo on Saturday.

"The goal of the event is to help empower women by providing information on things like health and finances," said Tonya Walton, the president. "We want them to gain the knowledge to help themselves and other women."

The event at Henry H. Brigham Community Center featured discussions on a variety of topics, including managing finances, organization, spirituality, fashion and health.

About 25 exhibitors and vendors provided women with information on fashion, cosmetics, education, voter registration and local organizations.

Positive Women Taking Action began in 2006 with "girls night out gatherings" and has evolved into a group of women reaching out into the community through awareness walks, back-to-school and Christmas drives and giveaways, and volunteer work, said Quita Gibson, the secretary.

"It's a chance for women to network," she said. "We are coming together to help improve our mind, body and soul in a positive environment while being a positive influence in our community."
