A Richmond County maintenance worker was in jail Tuesday, accused of drilling peepholes in a women's restroom inside the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center.

Ricky Leon Merriweather, 47, of the 2800 block of Bradford Court, Hephzibah, faces a felony peeping Tom charge, according to jail records.

Sheriff Ronnie Strength said Mr. Merriweather is a longtime county employee but not part of his department's roll.

Sheriff Strength said a female employee noticed two peepholes Tuesday in the ceiling of a women's employee restroom in the State Court wing of the Law Enforcement Center, 401 Walton Way.

The sheriff said investigators did not know when the holes were drilled.

When reached at his home Tuesday night, County Administrator Fred Russell said the case was a "personnel issue," and he would not discuss it.
