Floridian gets 12 years in jail

A Florida man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for trafficking cocaine and crack cocaine in Edgefield County.

Andre Methelus, 41, of Avon Park, Fla., was convicted in Edgefield County in a two-day trial.

Last week, he was sentenced to 12 years on two charges, with each sentence to run concurrently.

Mr. Methelus was arrested in February by investigators with the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, the Tri-County drug task force and the State Law Enforcement Division.

Aiken County wreck causes one fatality

Authorities with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office reported a fatal wreck Tuesday night.

The victim's identity was not available, but dispatchers said one person died in a wreck at Pine Log Road and U.S. Highway 78.

The wreck, which happened at about 9:45 p.m., involved a motorcycle and an automobile, according to the sheriff's office.

Augusta teen reports carjacking, robbery

An Augusta teenager told police he was the victim of a carjacking and armed robbery in a downtown Augusta neighborhood late Monday or early Tuesday.

The 19-year-old told police he was driving his Mazda pickup when he stopped at a stop sign at Fourth and Ellis streets. Four men approached his vehicle and demanded he get out, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.

The victim was pistol-whipped, fell to the ground and was kicked several times, the report said.

Police found the victim at about 4 a.m. Tuesday in front of the Huddle House restaurant on 13th Street. He was wearing a blood-soaked shirt.

He was treated at Medical College of Georgia Hospital and released, the report said.

2 men say they were robbed at gunpoint

Two Augusta men told police they were victims of a robbery early Monday morning.

One of the victims told police that four men approached him and a friend in the 1100 block of Emmett Street and threatened them with a handgun.

The robbers took $10 from one victim's pockets, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.

Woman finds baby alone on front porch

Police were called to an Augusta home Monday after hearing a report that a baby was found alone outside on the porch.

At about 11:30 a.m., Richmond County sheriff's authorities were called to the 1600 block of Forrest Street after a woman told police she knew of an infant girl who had been left alone at a house.

Monica Shanette Hankerson, who is also listed as a resident of the Forrest Street house, told police she entered the rear of the house and saw her sister's 1-year-old daughter on the front porch alone.

The Richmond County Department of Family and Children Services was contacted and advised authorities to leave the child in the custody of Ms. Hankerson, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.

When the report was filed by police, temperatures hovered around 90 degrees with a heat index of 105 degrees, the report said.

DFCS is continuing an investigation, which includes contacting the child's mother and her boyfriend, the report stated.

Cash, drugs are found in Beech Island raid

A Beech Island man is in jail on drug charges after authorities seized prescription medication and several thousand dollars in a raid, police said.

Thomas G. Musgrove, 22, of the 100 block of Jenkins Drive, has been charged with three counts of possession of controlled substances and one count of distribution of controlled substances.

Investigators from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and Aiken Public Safety executed a search warrant at 9:55 p.m. Monday and found Xanax, OxyContin, Methadose and hydrocodone in lock boxes in the bedroom in the home.

Mr. Musgrove was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center and is being held on $60,000.

Man goes to hospital after hotel bar fight

An Augusta man told police he was punched by another man at a hotel bar early Tuesday.

Whitney Fowler, 29, told police that the man knocked him to the floor while they were at Saints nightclub at Augusta Towers Hotel and Convention Center, 2651 Perimeter Parkway.

The incident occurred at 2:16 p.m., a Richmond County sheriff's report said.

Mr. Fowler was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, the report said.

No arrests were made, and police did not know why the fight occurred, the report said.

Robbers strike at home of 75-year-old woman

A weekend robbery at a south Augusta home was reported to police Monday.

Between 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Monday, someone entered a house on Overton Road and stole $30,000, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.

The victim is a 75-year-old retired woman, the report said.

Pharmacist reports suspicious customer

A Washington Road pharmacist told police that she was suspicious of a customer who tried to get a prescription filled for 110 tablets of Lorcet Hydrocodone.

Pharmacist Lillian Nguyen said she became suspicious because the physician's name was misspelled on the prescription. She called the doctor, who said he had not written a prescription for the customer, a Richmond County sheriff's report shows.

The customer left without the medicine, Ms. Nguyen told police.

Police charge man with drug possession

A Greenwood, S.C., man is facing multiple drug charges in Edgefield County.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Jamie Lamont Norman, 26, of the 1000 block of Reynolds Street, on Aug. 19 and charged him with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Mr. Norman was also charged with violating open container laws and resisting arrest.

Deputies seized about $615 when they arrested Mr. Norman.
