Man dies in crash

A Hephzibah man died early Friday as his vehicle crashed into the center median at U.S. Highway 1 and Bobby Jones Expressway, flipping multiple times.

Trawick Lewis, 29, of the 3500 block of Edgeworth Drive, was ejected from his Toyota 4Runner and died instantly from massive head trauma, according to a news release from Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.

Authorities were notified of the wreck about 3:30 a.m.

Family charged with making meth at home

A Hephzibah couple and their son are in jail after a raid of their home found them cooking methamphetamine with their 4-year-old grandson inside, police say.

Raymond Burbine, 47; Melissa Burbine, 43; and Alexander Burbine, 19, were arrested early Friday, according to Richmond County Sheriff's Office jail committals.

Sheriff's narcotics investigators raided their trailer in the 4100 block of Woodard Avenue at about 11 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's Sgt. Allan Rollins said. Inside, investigators say, they found meth that was settling into the finished product. The child was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital to be examined.

Police discover stolen computers, arrest man

Richmond County police have arrested one man and are looking for another after discovering 16 stolen computers at an Augusta hotel.

Dionne Walker, of Beech Island, is believed to have rented a U-Haul trailer in Alabama and moved the Hewlett Packard and Dell computers to the hotel, said Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Tony Walden. Deputies were called to Augusta Budget Inn in the 400 block of Broad Street on Thursday because of prostitution activity, Lt. Walden said. Once deputies arrived, authorities say, Leon Jennings, 38, of Augusta, ran to and was detained in room 105 where the computers were found. Deputies charged Mr. Jennings with theft by receiving stolen goods.

Man robs Grovetown Waffle House at 6 a.m.

A gunman robbed a Grovetown Waffle House on Friday morning.

Dressed entirely in black, including a mask and gloves, the man entered the Waffle House on Lewiston Road near Interstate 20 at about 6 a.m., said Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris. He said the man brandished a chrome-plated handgun and demanded money.

Refinery blast victim dies six months later

Malcom Frazier, 47, died Friday morning from injuries suffered in the Feb. 7 Imperial Sugar refinery explosion outside Savannah.

Mr. Frazier, who had been in critical condition for more than six months at Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital, died at 12:50 a.m., according to a hospital news release. The burn center received 20 patients who were injured in the explosion. Six have died as a result of their injuries, 13 have been discharged and one remains in critical condition.

The death toll from the blast is now 14.

Third suspect charged in robbery at store

Police arrested a third suspect Friday who is accused of robbing a south Augusta convenience store.

Maurice Marcel Ward, 23, of Waynesboro, is charged with armed robbery and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to jail officials. He is accused in Tuesday's robbery of the Savin Haven on Mike Padgett Highway.

Charles Lawson, 19, of Valdosta, and Yolanda Tucker Crockett, 24, of Waynesboro, were arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Stabbing reported in downtown Augusta

A stabbing was reported in downtown Augusta on Friday night, but the victim's condition was not immediately known, according to an Augusta 911 dispatcher.

The stabbing occurred in the 400 block of Broad Street about 8:30 p.m., the dispatcher said. No other information was available late Friday.

TRAFFIC NOTES

- Traffic signal times are being disrupted on Washington Road as crews continue a repaving project between Fury s Ferry Road and John C. Calhoun Expressway. Richmond County Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell said the signals will be operating on a timer and not on sensors while the project is completed. The signals should be operating normally within 10 days, he said.

- There will be a lane closure on the eastbound and possibly westbound sides of Bobby Jones Expressway between Scott Nixon Memorial Drive and Wheeler Road from Monday through Thursday, according to a Georgia Department of Transportation news release. The closures will occur from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

WHEN TO WATER

You can water today if your home address is an even number in Columbia and Richmond counties, which are under Level Two restrictions. Watering is allowed from midnight to 10 a.m. on an even-odd basis based on street address. No watering is allowed on Mondays.

Odd-numbered addresses: water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Even-numbered addresses: water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

There are no water restrictions in South Carolina's Aiken, Edgefield, Barnwell and McCormick counties.
