WHAT'S WRONG WITH the YMCA on Wheeler Road? Parking is a nightmare. The place is overcrowded.

NO RANT NOR RAVE this morning. Just wanted to wish Scott Winkler and the rest of the team the best of luck as they travel to the para olympic games.

TO THE LADY WHO stopped Aug. 8 at Gordon Highway and Newmantown Road to assist a small kitten struck by a vehicle: I took the kitten to a vet and his only injuries were a small amount of road rash. The vet kept the kitten for his family and it will no longer be roaming the roadways. Thank you for stopping.

PARDON ME IF I am not enthusiastic about the Olympics being in China. After all, I and others like me, from World War II on, only fought and were wounded in (and many died in) two wars fighting their surrogates, North Korea and North Vietnam, while they built up their state-sponsored capitalist country to pollute our planet, steal our technology and send Chinese junk to be sold at markets in the United States.

PEOPLE IN AUGUSTA HAVE been tightening their belts in these hard times, but the commissioners don't seem to notice. We continue to pay for their gas and cell phones while they look for more ways to spend our hard-earned tax dollars. And that's not counting frivolous feasibility studies for whatever new hair-brained idea they come up with, or on lawsuits they aren't going to win. Instead of scrapping all nonessential spending and sticking to the infrastructure, such as maintaining the prime services, they figure they don't have to tighten their belts.

RUSSIANS INVADING Georgia? Hey, Earl, you converted that AR-15 to automatic yet?

RAVE TO THE CHRONICLE for listing local businesses with complaints on record with the BBB.

A MEGA-RANT to those county governmental functionaries who decided to invest Columbia County tax dollars in one centralized recreational mega-complex and in a handful of smaller facilities to the exclusion of sidewalks, bike paths, baseball fields and basketball courts sprinkled widely and numerously in neighborhoods throughout a county of "endless opportunities."
