Women's Day

Maj. Gen. Irene Trowell-Harris will speak at Gethsemane Baptist Church's Annual Women's Day on Sunday.

The Aiken native is the Air National Guard assistant to the director for human resources readiness in Washington, D.C. She also serves as the chair of the Human Relations Quality Board.

In 1986, she was appointed commander of the 105th USAF Clinic in Newburgh, N.Y., becoming the first nurse in Air National Guard history to command a medical clinic.

In 1998, she became the first woman to have a Tuskegee Airmen Chapter named in her honor.

Bishop search

The search is on for the next Episcopal bishop of Georgia.

The diocese's search committee has scheduled conversations at churches across the state to find a successor for Bishop Henry I. Louttit. A town hall-style meeting will be held 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Church of the Good Shepherd at 2230 Walton Way in Augusta with the chairman of the search committee, the Rev. Robert Fain. Family Life Center

A new Family Life Center will open at Tabernacle Baptist Church today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community day.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church at 1223 Laney Walker Blvd.

The facility was dedicated Friday night at a worship service with former pastor the Rev. Otis Moss III, now pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, the former church of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Catholic Foundation

The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia has appointed Nancy Coveny as executive director.

The nonprofit foundation, headquartered in Atlanta since its founding in 1992, funds youth, community development, education and health programs.

Toy drive

The Beulah Grove Community Resource Center is in need of donations to its toy drive for underprivileged children.

The center aims to distribute gifts to at least 300 families this Christmas. Toys, learning supplies, clothing and donations will be accepted at the Resource Center at 1434 Poplar St. in Augusta. Call (706) 722-4999.

Summer Splash

Vaucluse United Methodist Church, 134 Senn St., will stage a Summer Splash, with water games, inflatables and free food, beginning at 9 a.m. today. The band All Will Be Won will perform. Call (803) 564- 3754.
