An affiliation agreement between the Augusta GreenJackets and the San Francisco Giants will remain intact for at least another two years after the teams renewed their player development contract this week.
The GreenJackets have been San Francisco's Single-A affiliate since the 2005 season. The contract extension will keep the Giants' presence in Augusta through the 2010 season.
"The Giants have consistently provided us with some of the top young talent in the system," GreenJackets general manager Nick Brown said in a statement released by the team Wednesday night. "Year after year the team is one of the top teams in the minors."
The GreenJackets received five of the Giants' top seven picks from the 2007 draft this season, including the South Atlantic League's ERA leader, Madison Bumgarner (10th overall), and the team's leading hitter, Nick Noonan (32nd overall). Augusta also was entrusted with teenage first baseman Angel Villalona, who is considered one of the top prospects in the Giants organization.
"The Giants have enjoyed being a part of the Augusta community and have particularly appreciated the commitment of the GreenJackets' ownership and management team in the assistance they provide in helping us develop our young players," Giants director of player personnel Bobby Evans said. "We look forward to continuing an already great association with the GreenJackets."
