Agents question suspect
Investigators return to Florida hospital to interview Thomson teen accused of killing parents, stabbing sister
Georgia investigators returned to a Florida hospital Thursday to spend a second day questioning a Thomson teen accused of killing his parents and stabbing his sister.
After interviewing 18-year-old Matt Dean on Wednesday, two agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation went back to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach on Thursday morning to talk again about the killings.
Because of its policies, the GBI does not plan to release details of what Mr. Dean said during the interview, and his statements probably won't be made public until a court hearing is held, according to Mike Seigler, a GBI assistant agent in charge.
Mr. Dean was seriously injured Saturday in a head-on collision with a truck inside Kennedy Space Center property. The driver of the other vehicle was killed.
Mr. Dean continues to recover in the hospital's intensive surgical care unit. He is under constant guard by Volusia County Corrections officers and will remain in their custody until he can be extradited to Georgia.
McDuffie County officials have obtained two warrants for murder and one for aggravated assault in connection with the Aug. 3 slayings of David and Terri Dean and the stabbing of Bethany Dean, the suspect's sister. All three were attacked in their home.
Authorities say Mr. Dean took the family's car after the slayings and drove to Florida.
