The area's organization of real estate sellers is building its own home.
By next spring, the Greater Augusta Association of Realtors will be moving its office into a new 6,500 square foot building on Roy Street near the Wheeler Road-Interstate 20 interchange.
The $1.5 million building has been planned for four years and will be paid for by member dues, said organization board member Tom Horner.
"We've been diligent with the members' money over the years. We were able to go get some financing," Mr. Horner said.
Its current office near Boy Scout Road will go on the market when the new building is ready, said association President Linda Townsend.
The office will house the five staff members and have a 100-person room for continuing education for members. The education wing was one of the reasons for constructing the new office, Ms. Townsend said.
The new office will be more centrally located for members, Mr. Horner said. South Augusta Realtors will be able to access the office through Bobby Jones Expressway, Columbia and Aiken County members through I-20.
