Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

WHAT'S WITH ALL the crime around here, how come so little of it is reported in our local paper's Metro pages?

A BIG RAVE TO THE three city commissioners -- Joe Bowles, Jerry Brigham and Don Grantham -- who attended the public hearing on the proposed tax increase at Warren Road Community Center. A rant to all the other commissioners. Guess you don't care what the public thinks.

WHY ARE MILLIONS being spent to modify Calhoun Expressway, and why is Cottage Street being extended? Use the money to build bike/walking paths and repave all the pothole ridden streets of downtown. Quit wasting money on useless highway projects -- I-20 included.

A RANT FOR ALL the publicity concerning speeders and red-light runners in Columbia County, and still no end in sight. I thought we had a traffic division.

RAVE FOR THE Columbia County Commission for doing the right thing and approving the speed hump installations at the commission meeting July 22. The residents of Oak Brook thank you!

TO ALL REPAIR SHOPS and repairmen: If someone is in need of your services and takes time off of work for you to show up at their house, please have the decency to keep that person informed of when you are going to show up.

A BIG RAVE TO THE deputy who found my drivers license at the Lock and Dam and returned them to my home.

FOR THE PERSON with "a serious question" about Georgia state lottery, you don't have your facts correct about the winners. There are many big winners from the state lottery. They just don't want to be acknowledged to the public.

A RAVE to the owners of 1102 Bar & Grill for allowing us to host the Disciple concert July 16. It was great. Thank you.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW the Richmond County Board of Education can hire a guest speaker for $10,000 to have an employee convocation Aug. 5! Dr. Bedden has already cut custodians pay, but still wants to increase property taxes? Get your priorities together.
