NEW YORK -- Models over 40 can have the same great figures, hair and smiles that their 20-something counterparts have, but with age comes confidence, one of the most attractive qualities a woman can possess, says Candace Bushnell, the 45-year-old author of "Sex and the City" and "Four Blondes."
Bushnell was among the judges for the fifth annual MORE/Wilhelmina 40+ Model Search. Teruko Burrell, 45, of Santa Monica, Calif., eventually was selected from a pool of 15,000 entries.
"I think I'm very different looking, being half African-American, half Japanese. I have a lot of hair, and I have a big smile and big white teeth," Burrell says. "I've always had a dream to be a model and I thought why not just try? When you get a little older you believe in yourself, and More gets that not everything is about age."
Burrell, and two runners-up, Lynn Waite, 53, of Brookfield, Wis., and Janine Crisera, 41, of Middletown, N.J., received modeling contracts and have already been photographed for their first major advertisement: Ford Motor Co.'s new F-500 campaign. They'll also be featured in More's November issue.
So far, Burrell, an administrator at the Getty Museum's department of paper conservation, is enjoying the model life.
"I've worn gowns by Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera," she says. "I've never worn anything like that before. I've only read about Vera Wang in the newspaper and magazines. This should be Sarah Jessica Parker, not me."
Bushnell says what made Burrell stand out was her personality. "Modeling really is about personality, confidence and how you carry yourself. You can't get by just on your looks," she says.
Peggy Northrop, editor in chief of More, says she noticed how many of the entrants were incredibly fit.
"We saw so many yoga instructors and yoga practitioners, so many healthy women and so many individual looking women. ... I love the idea of women in 40s and 50s being the new glamour babe."
Touch time
NEW YORK -- James Bond isn't the only one with a cool watch these days. Swiss watchmaker Tissue and MSN Direct have teamed to create the High-T Smart Watch, which allows the wearer to simply touch the dial to receive news, weather, sports, stocks, appointment reminders and other customized information.
It's also up to the wearer if they prefer a digital or a Roman numeral display, and if the stock quotes are to be scrolling or fixed.
All the information is beamed to the watch through FM radio waves; each watch has an antenna built into the band and it stores updated data until the wearer touches the dial.
The Smart Watch also automatically adjusts according to time zone based on the wearer's location - and pulls up a map to show exactly where on earth you are. It was 150 years ago that Tissot introduced one of the first multiple time-zone timepiece: a two-zone pocket watch.
The new watch comes ready to use. It's activated at the time of purchase and includes six months of free MSN Direct service.

Bare essentials
NEW YORK -- Women like playing with makeup, trying new products and new looks, but they are incredibly loyal to their lip balm, says Leslie Blodgett, CEO of Bare Escentuals, producer of mineral-based cosmetics.
She offers this idea to those who want some color on their lips but don't want to give up their nourishing balm: Dip the balm into a loose powder blush or eye shadow, covering the tip with color. The moistness of the balm will allow the color to be spread smoothly on the lips - and the balm itself will continue to deliver moisturizer and SPF.
Some of Blodgett's other tips include:
-Wearing blue eye shadow.
"It's a myth that certain women can not wear bright colors, such as blue on their eyes. Remember that less is more. Take a thin eyeliner brush and create a line starting toward the outer edge of the eye, above the lash line and around the edge to underneath the eye forming a triangle."
-Applying mascara to fine lashes.
"Try using an eyeliner and create a very thin line at the base of the lash. This fills in the lashes and makes them look thicker. Then apply at least two coats of mascara and use a lash comb when finished."
-Faux tanning.
"Make sure to exfoliate beforehand and use a fake tanner that is tinted going on so you can see where you have applied it. Then use an exfoliator or sea mud soap to remove the fake tanner from your hands.
