BARNWELL, S.C.- Eleanor Boland Owens, 75, widow of Elbert Guy Owens, Jr., died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at her residence. Born in Spartanburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Frank David and Louise Wynn Boland. She was a graduate of Lander College and received her master's degree in biology from the University of Virginia and Stetson University. She taught chemistry and biology in Goldsboro, N.C., and taught earth science at Guinyard-Butler Middle School in Barnwell. She taught tennis in S.C., Louisiana, and N.C. She was an avid tennis player, loved hiking, the mountains, and was a true lover of nature. She authored many books of local history, S.C. Indians, tennis, family history and books of fiction. She was a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution and the united daughters of the Confederacy. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004 in the Boiling Springs Presbyterian Church, Boiling Springs Community, with the Rev . Posey Belcher officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to The Eleanor Boland Owens Scholarship Fund c/o P.O. Box 1368, Barnwell, S.C. 29812 Survivors include; Sons and daughters-in-law, Guy Font and Rebecca Owens of Lafayette, La., Gary Wynn Owens of Lafayette, La., Patrick Alfred and Marie Owens of Richmond, Va., daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee Eleanor and John Boggs of Yorktown, Va., sister, Jimmie Lee Bialy of Barnwell, grandchildren, Hilary Pruett, Justin Pruett, James Patrick Lowery, Claire Lowery, Richard Guy Lowery, Guy Randolph Owens, Sarah Hannah Owens, Helen Rebecca Owens, Benjamin Clark Owens, Savannah Owens, Alex Owens, Ellen Boggs and Lesley Boggs.She was preceded by a daughter, Caroline Louise Owens Pruett-Lowery.
