AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. Charles L. Downs, Sr., age 88, of Augusta, formerly of Sandersville, died Wednesday, July 28, at Doctors Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Warren Baptist Church, Washington Rd., Augusta. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the May & Smith Sandersville Chapel with burial in Brownwood Cemetery, Sandersville. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Mr. Downs was a life long Baptist and served as a deacon. He was a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Sandersville and Warren Baptist Church. Mr. Downs was also an Army/Air Force Veteran of WWII. He is the widower of the late Veola Riner Downs. Survivors are his children, Charles Downs, Jr. of Sandersville, Anita D. Smalley of Augusta and Norma D. Page of Seabourne, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends in Sandersville one hour prior to services on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the Warren Baptist Church Building Fund, 5203 Washington Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30907.
