IN RESPONSE to the person who stated that Charles Walker is innocent until proven guilty, I agree with you. However, when you implied that all black people support him, this is not so. I, for one, am black and I DO NOT support Charles Walker.
AFTER LAST WEEK'S election, I thank God every day I made the choice to live in Columbia County. A person like Charles Walker gets 60 percent of the vote. Ignorance and apathy are running rampant in parts of Richmond County, and it gets worse each year.
TO THE PERSON who suggested that "there is no reason to continue living in this city" because Charles Walker received 60 percent of the Democratic vote in District 22: Five thousand votes out of Augusta's total population of 200,000 is hardly an overwhelming number. But if you really want to leave this wonderful city, please send in your name and address to the newspaper, and the rest of the 195,000 of us will gladly help you move.
I NOTICED RECENTLY on the news that "W" made a few political reversals and some tactical "re-evaluations" along with a couple policy changes. I believe Republicans refer to that as flip-flopping when done by a Democrat.
THIS IS A RANT about the people who are responsible for finding band directors. Here it is, two weeks before school and Laney High School doesn't have a band director, and summer practice starts on the 26th of July. What are those students and alumni supposed to do?
A RAVE to the Columbia County Commission for addressing the problem of smoking in county businesses. My daughter finally quit a job she loved in a Washington Road restaurant because of secondhand smoke. She shouldn't have had to make that decision. Restaurant and bar owners have an obligation to protect their employees from workplace hazards just like all the other business owners. Richmond County, wake up.
WANT TO SOLVE one of the major causes of a lack of quality education for our children? Then let's have a stay-at-home mom or dad be there when they depart for school and greet them with love and supervision after they return. To blame Dr. Larke or the professional teachers is a cop-out when, in fact, some children hardly ever see their parents until the weekends. Let the mom or dad work two jobs and the other be a caring home parent.
THIS IS A RAVE for Lewis Blanchard. He ran a clean and respectable race for Columbia County sheriff. Sadly, he lost, but he can still keep his head up.
A RANT for Betty Beard saying that Danny Craig ruined Ronnie Few's reputation. I think Ronnie Few created his own problems. Maybe the people in Washington, D.C., also worked to ruin his reputation and put all those lies in Mr. Few's resume.
HERE IS A RANT for the Board of Education. If you're banning baggy pants because mostly African-Americans wear them, why not all that black some of the Caucasian students are wearing?
THIS IS A RANT for all the teachers who have enough time to think that students are in a gang and not how to get their test scores up.
