Seeks `choice' in wearing of helmet
Web posted July 28, 1997
As well as requesting the repeal of an invalid, undefined and unconstitutional ``helmet law,'' they are in support of other legislation which asks for better rider education through motorcycle safety courses, and better public awareness of motorcycles.
I thought that it should be made clear that these are responsible riders, who are conscientious about their safety and those around them, but believe the key to safety is through the education of, and improved riding skills of motorcyclists, and by other vehicle drivers becoming more aware of motorcycles, not by being forced to wear something on their heads that may or may not comply with a non-existent list of protective headgear.
I wear a helmet every time I ride, and will more than likely choose to do so even if the law changes. But as a responsible, educated adult, that should be my choice.
