Cindy O'Brien was amazed when she attended her first Bike Night at North Augusta's SNO-CAP Drive-In last year.
"About 200 bikers came out," said Ms. O'Brien, the executive director of the Art Factory, a nonprofit organization in Augusta that will be the beneficiary of a bike night planned for 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the SNO-CAP. "We had lots of fun."
The drive-in is the site of a gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts on the last Tuesday of each month from February through October.
HardTail Custom Cycles in Aiken is sponsoring the event.
Ms. O'Brien said one of the Art Factory's board members is related to Frank and Peggy Garvin, the owners of HardTail, and that link got the arts school involved.
"It's a socializing event, and it gives them a great place to ride to," said Ms. O'Brien.
The Art Factory provides art programs to organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Gracewood State School and Hospital, Hope House and the Medical College of Georgia Hospital through its Healing Arts program.
Ms. O'Brien said she hopes for another good turnout Tuesday.
The event will feature raffles as well as an opportunity to meet with other motorcycle enthusiasts, all while helping a charity.
"They are wonderful people," Ms. O'Brien said of the motorcycle riders. "We are lucky to have them in our community."
Bike nights have been a staple event at the SNO-CAP since the spring of 2003, according to Rachel Franklin, owner of the drive in.
"Mark Steedley and Bob Hinds started it," she said. "They did it for about four years."
She said they were looking for a place that didn't serve alcohol as a site for the events.
Each month, members of a different motorcycle club play host to the event.
"It's just good old-fashioned fun," she said.
