INVERNESS, Fla. -- Two of Ted Williams' children withdrew their request to settle privately the dispute with their half sister over the Hall of Famer's remains.
Robert Goldman, an attorney for John Henry Williams and Claudia Williams, filed the motion in Citrus County Circuit Court on Tuesday, saying the elder daughter, Bobby-Jo Williams Ferrell, has "no intention of making any good faith effort to reach a private understanding."
Goldman asked a judge last week to order a mandatory mediation session with Ferrell to avoid a public showdown in court.
Ted Williams died July 5 and his body was then sent to be frozen at Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Arizona, under the orders of John Henry Williams and Claudia Williams.
Ferrell is seeking to retrieve her father's body from the Arizona lab, cremate it and sprinkle his ashes off the coast of the Florida Keys, as Williams' will dictates.
The estate's executor, Al Cassidy, and the other two children have said Williams had a change of heart after the will was drafted in December 1996 and wanted to be preserved.
Neither Goldman nor Ferrell's attorney, Richard Fitzpatrick, immediately returned calls Tuesday seeking comment.
Chip Tuttle, a spokesman for Williams' estate, said: "It appears the Williams family will not be able to resolve this matter privately and will move forward to seek help from the court."
