Georgia Games notebook

SUNDAY'S STARS

  • Cherelle Ferris, of the College Park Ballers, sank three fourth-quarter three-pointers and scored 17 points, leading the Ballers to a 50-45, comeback win over the AYA Stars in the 13-and-under girls basketball finals.

  • Dennis Moberg, of Martinez, won the men's masters (50+) mountain biking championship, with a time of 77:02, finishing the race more than 17 minutes faster than the runner-up.

  • The Augusta Fencing Club won the team foil gold medal, and Augusta Fencers Jade Hawk and Louise Moore earned sportsmanship awards.

  • After winning two gold medals in shooting Saturday, Dallas Smith, of Evans, claimed a third Sunday, with 376 points in the male air rifle class O event.

  • Eugene Long, of Augusta, won gold medals Sunday in the male action pistol 1 class M (439 points), and male action pistol 2 class MA (45 points).

  • Brett Shealy, of Douglas, won an individual gold medal in the male BB-gun class B, with 277 points, and earned a team gold in BB-gun class C event, with 1,012 points.

  • Bea Gilstrap, of Lumpkin, won the female BB-gun Class A gold medal (277 points) and was a member of the winning BB-gun Class B team (1,096 points).

  • Bethany Loushine, of Martinez, who lit the official Georgia Games cauldron at the opening ceremonies on July 12, won a gold medal in the female, age 15-19 triathlon, with a time of 1:17.07.

  • Larry Williams won the triathlon in the men's Clydesdale division, with a time of 1:40.49.

    SATURDAY'S STARS

  • Paipoon Rashapasakhom, of Atlanta, was named the most outstanding male athlete in badminton, after winning the men's singles championship. Most outstanding female, Emi Miyake, of Augusta, was the women's singles champion and teamed with Kate Sandman, of Atlanta, to win the women's open doubles title.

  • Nathi Rai, of Lawrenceville, and Sue Weiloch, of Decatur, each earned two gold medals in badminton.

    STAFF

  • Lynn Burch, of Edgefield, won a gold medal in the SBN-1 division equestrian event. Robert Chumbley, of Augusta, (SN-1) and Miranda Nelson, of Washington, (JBN-1) both earned silver medals in equestrian competitions.

  • In tennis, Augusta-area athletes swept the medals in both boys 14 singles (1. Jaron Bergeron, 2. Trey Neal, 3. Jordan Kirby) and women's 3.5 singles (1. Julie Luther, 2. Cherie Garrison, 3. Barbara Outley).

  • In Ultimate Frisbee, the Augusta Soul Patrol won all four of its games Saturday, and claimed the silver medal on Sunday.

    HONOR: Faucette was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for her volunteer work at the Augusta State University Athletic Complex during the Georgia Games.
