TODAY'S STARS

  • Mel Shuman won the Elite Division of the disc golf competition with a 106.

  • Derek Wojcik won three gold medals in Judo. He placed first in Bantam Heavy, Bantam Super Heavy and Senior Advanced Heavyweight divisions.

  • In shooting, Dallas Smith won two gold medals. He took the Smallbore Kneeling and Standing Class O Division and Smallbore Prone Class O Division.

  • In fencing, Bruce Vail secured two gold medals. He bested all comers in the Mixed Open Epee and U-20 Mixed Epee divisions. Darrell Fields won the Mixed Open Sabre and Open Final Sabre divisions and Audrey Borroso took the Women's Sabre and Women's U-20 Sabre.

  • SwimAtlanta won the youth swimming team gold medal with a final score of 4266.5.

  • Augusta's Coleman and Associates scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to top the Flipsticks, of Statesboro, 21-20, en route to the Coed Softball Championship at Diamond Lakes Park.

    RESULTS: Augusta defeated the Savannah Ultimate Disc Society (SUDS), 7-1, and edged the Georgia Southern Sol, 7-6, on Saturday.

    QUOTABLE: On what she enjoys about Ultimate Frisbee: "It's a laid-back sport, and there's no officials. It's all run on good spirit. Women can make all the difference in coed competition." The Augusta team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Augusta Soccer Park.
