Bluegrass association gathering will honor players, entertain fans

The International Bluegrass Music Association's 2008 World of Bluegrass gathering in Nashville, Tenn., is set for October.

Highlights of the event are the International Bluegrass Music Awards Show in historic Ryman Auditorium on Oct. 2 and the Bluegrass Fan Fest on Oct. 3-5 in the Nashville Convention Center. Tickets for the awards show are $60 and $100 for members, or $70 and $110 for nonmembers, available after Aug. 15.

For the Bluegrass Fan Fest, there will be more than 60 acts on four stages, including The Grascals, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Kathy Mattea, Cherryholmes, Blue Highway, Dailey and Vincent, Michael Martin Murphey, David Parmley and Continental Divide, Larry Stephenson, Ralph Stanley II, and Ramona Jones Family & Friends.

Three-day tickets for the Fan Fest concerts are $70 for members and $85 for nonmembers. After Sept. 5, tickets will be available only at the gate for $90. One-day and discounted student tickets also will be available at the gate. Ages 15 and younger are admitted free with an adult. There are no reserved-seating tickets at Fan Fest.

CLOVER COUNTRY CDS: The compilation CD Clover Country: Songs From Famous 4-H Alumni, includes Georgians Hillary Lindsey, of Washington, singing The Clown; Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland), of Douglas, singing Baby Girl; and Luke Bryan, of Leesburg, singing We Rode in Trucks .

Shirley Williamson, a county extension agent in Columbia County, has copies for $12 at Savannah Rapids Pavilion on Evans to Locks Road. Call (706) 868-3413.

She said the Columbia County 4-H program is one of the largest in the state, providing programs for 3,000 4-H'ers.

The CD was created in cooperation with EMI Music (Capitol Records) with help from other 4-H alumni, including Faith Hill, Johnny Cash, Reba McEntire, Alabama and Dolly Parton.
