Feaster talks to youths about following dreams
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Hometown hero and WNBA star Allison Feaster told about 80 summer YMCA campers how to chase dreams like she did.
''You can do whatever it is you want in life as long as you believe you can do it,'' said Feaster, 25, the Charlotte Sting forward.
''I came from Chester just like you guys, she said, and you can be standing right here where I am one day if you just believe in yourself,'' she said.
Feaster starred at Chester High and is still South Carolina's all-time leading prep scorer with 3,427 points. She played four years at Harvard - and was Ivy League Player of the Year three times - before becoming a pro.
Feaster says she wants to play about five more years because there are other things she wants to do besides basketball.
''When I was a kid, I wanted to be the first female President of the United States, a general in the Army, a doctor and an actress,'' she said. ''I had a lot of dreams and right now I'm living out another one.''
Feaster was traded to Charlotte after three years with the Los Angeles Sparks.
''I'm thankful to be in my home community,'' she said. ''It makes everything more meaningful for me. It certainly made it more meaningful to many of the campers that she's a hometown star.''
