Candidates should be loyal to truths
Letter to the Editor
Tuesday, July 01, 2008

The presidential election nears, and we witness folks pushing their faith under the rug to vote based on race. On the other hand, there are those who would vote for or against gender. Yes, some would cross political lines just to vote against a woman. How does one of faith align with a candidate who supports same-sex marriage, abortion on demand, etc.? The liberal list is endless of what voters will overlook just to get that first black man elected -- just to make history, which it surely will make. Scary.

Practicing what you preach is also evident in your choice of elected leaders. In his article "Christian vs. Liberal Concepts of Freedom II, Part V," philosophy professor Louis Groarke says that theoretical liberalism and Christianity are incompatible, even opposed, world-views. Christianity demands loyalty to certain truths; liberalism demands "perpetual openness to change." There's that word "change" -- and it will be irreversible if this most liberal senator in Congress gets elected president of the United States. God help us.

There are many conservative black men who outshine the likes of Barack Obama or John McCain. But the "conservative" black leaders get the shaft (and are labeled uncle Toms) by the liberal left, including the majority of their own race. It baffles me beyond reason why the political party that has promised so much to the minorities continues to get their vote. It is a matter of record for 40 years that Democrats have only hindered the will of the human spirit and the responsibility to make something of oneself.

This is a critical election for America -- its sovereignty and hope. Of the two choices, I lean right. The certain truths of Christianity do not change because of race or gender. Show me a candidate who is a Christian, conservative, black woman, and you've got my attention.
