Determined Dawgs
Despite national title loss, UGA baseball team are champions to us

It shouldn't happen to a dog.

At least not our Dawgs.

The University of Georgia baseball team this year came a long way from last year's 22-33 campaign. This year, UGA's top-to-bottom talent carried the school to the championship of the College World Series.

But the other Bulldogs -- the underdogs -- would not be denied the last chapter of their Cinderella story. With its win Wednesday night, Fresno State won its first national title in a men's sport -- and became the lowest-seeded team to win a championship in any NCAA sport. Limping into the CWS courtesy of an improbable conference championship, Fresno State just kept winning.

UGA has become accustomed to winning this year, but fans also can be proud in the way the Dawgs carried themselves in defeat.

"This one game isn't going to define our season as a failure at all," UGA senior third-baseman Ryan Peisel said. "It's been a pleasure, been an honor to work with these coaches, players, staff. There's no judgment on this season tonight."

Bulldog Nation couldn't be prouder of the wonderful baseball we've had the pleasure to witness this season. These young men deserve our thanks.
