An Augusta businessman has acquired Fat Man's Forest's lighting services.

Dick Hadlock, a business forms and printing services salesman for RR Donnelly company, on Tuesday purchased the holiday and outdoor lighting businesses from Fat Man's Forest owner Brad Usry.

The 60-year-old family-run holiday merchandise store closed at the end of March.

Mr. Hadlock bought the franchise rights from Mr. Usry to sell and install lighting through Lubbock, Texas-based The Decor Group. He will run the lighting businesses under the name Christmas and Nite Time Decors of Augusta.

The three workers in the business will retain their jobs.

Mr. Hadlock said he approached Mr. Usry about outdoor lighting three months ago and learned the sideline businesses were for sale. He said he will remain with RR Donnelly despite buying the lighting franchises.

Terms of the sale were not released.

The business designs and installs holiday lighting for business clients and outdoor and holiday lighting for homes. Mr. Hadlock said employment will increase to 12 people during the holiday season to handle demand.

As for the sale of the Fat Man's property at 1545 Laney-Walker Blvd., Mr. Usry said "for now we've got everything on ice."

The cafe at 1717 Laney-Walker Blvd. is scheduled to close in August.
