Wynn, a former standout at Lincoln County High who was a backup at Georgia, said he is planning to transfer to a Division I-AA school. He declined to discuss the specifics of his problems with the Bulldogs' coaches.
The 6-foot-3, 262-pound Wynn, a defensive end, has one year of eligibility remaining. He said he has yet to decide where he'll transfer.
"Me and the coaches had some problems and stuff," he said by phone from his home in Athens, Ga. "I don't even want to get detailed with it, but that was pretty much it. Other than that, there were no problems."
Wynn's uncle, Jesse Wynn, said his nephew's decision was mutually agreed upon two weeks ago by Wynn and Georgia's coaching staff.
"I went up and talked with (Georgia coach) Mark Richt then, and he said he didn't know if Shedrick just got stubborn or what," Jesse Wynn said. "He said there was stuff he had asked Shedrick to do that he never did."
Wynn's mother, Frances Ferguson, said academics were part of the problem. Wynn was suspended for the first three games of the 2002 season because of poor grades. She also said a back injury, which kept Wynn out of the Bulldogs' 26-13 Sugar Bowl victory over Florida State on New Year's Day, was a factor.
Wynn was held out of spring practice because of unspecified off-field issues.
The 22-year-old Wynn played sparingly during his freshman and sophomore seasons. He switched from defensive tackle to defensive end in 2002 and played in 10 games, registering 19 tackles - 4.5 for loss.
His career highlight came in last year's 18-13 win over Tennessee, when he recorded two sacks. Wynn was listed as the backup to star defensive end David Pollack after spring drills.
Wynn said he'll decide where to transfer by next week.
"It's kind of disappointing, but I just have to go ahead and continue playing and get my degree," said Wynn, a housing major.
Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner said he is trying to help Wynn find another school.
"He's not a bad kid," Garner said. "He's just like all kids. Sometimes they just do some knucklehead things."
