Why is our governor visiting this group?
Letter to the Editor
Thursday, June 19, 2008

Recently in Chantilly, Va., there was a meeting taking place by a group known as the Bilderberg Group. This is a group of men and women from around the world considered the world's "elite." The list of names is to numerous to mention here. The regulars include Henry Kissinger and David Rockefeller.

This group meets in secret every year in different countries. It is speculated that global issues are discussed and mapped out in these meetings much like a game of chess.

Some of the names on the list are intriguing. Some of the well-known names include:

- Ben Bernanke -- chairman, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System;

- Condoleeza Rice -- U.S. secretary of state;

l James A. Johnson -- tasked with choosing U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's running mate;

- Paul Wolfowitz -- with the Institute for Public Policy Research.

The one name that stands out in my opinion this year is South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford. Why is our governor meeting with this group? If the group's motives are what many speculate, then what role does Gov. Sanford's attendance play? This meeting is by invitation only, so why was he invited?

Many people worldwide are disturbed by these meetings and demand to know the truth behind them. Since the group's motives are so questionable, I feel our governor should explain his attendance to those who may also find it a reason for concern.

The public only knows what the media tell them, and the media will not publish a story about Gov. Sanford's visit. With a group as shrouded in secrecy as this group, it is the voters right to know.

Rick James, Wagener, S.C.
