Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay, 2006, $29.99
WHAT: It's no wonder this is one of the most popular wines sold in U.S. restaurants. The wine is a beautiful, lush blend of tropical and citrus fruit tastes, with glimpses of peach, apple and creamy light oak tones. The oak is not at all jarring. It is well integrated into the rich fruit. The malolactic fermentation gives it a smooth, creamy feel. The wine has a complex and lingering finish. Serve well-chilled. You can cellar this wine for another year or two.
GOES WITH: Although it can be sipped as an aperitif, the flavor really explodes with a good food pairing, especially with a white meat or fish. I would recommend crab cakes, smoked salmon, chicken in a cream sauce, roast chicken, a mild cheese, shrimp, mild fish or lobster.
